- Follow-up varies considerably, depending on the initial grade of lymphoma and the treatment.
- • Patients with low-grade lymphoma require life-long follow-up because of the strong likelihood that the disease
- will recur and/or will transform into a higher-grade malignancy.
- • Some forms of intermediate-grade lymphoma, particularly diffuse small cleaved cell and follicular large cell
- lymphoma, may also relapse over long periods.
- • Recurrence of intermediate-grade diffuse large cell and mixed lymphomas or high-grade lymphomas usually
- occurs within three years after treatment. Relapse is rarely hard to find, given the rapid growth characteristics
- of these lymphomas. All patients should be seen at regular intervals for physical examination, complete blood
- counts and radiologic studies. Newer biologic markers of minimal disease may be used in the future.
